Paper on PFAS biotransformations
Congratulations to Fanshu on this excellent paper resulting from work done as part of her Master’s thesis!
In this study, Fanshu conducted experiments to induce the biotransformation of eight fluorotelomer acids with different fluorinated chain lengths and different head groups. She used high-resolution mass spectrometry to identify the formation of biotransformations products and then organized the putative biotransformation products into proposed pathways. Her work led to the discovery of a proposed cascading pathway that results in the formation of perfluorocarboxylic acids of varying chain length and explains the biotransformation of all eight fluorotelomer acids.
